JetBlue Airways said Thursday it intends to unveil its first class “BlueFirst” service on more than 30 U.S. domestic routes including flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and New York or Boston.

Passengers can now book the premium service with limited-time promotional fares as low as $249 one-way.

“BlueFirst will officially take flight on Dec. 8, with its first-ever revenue flight connecting two of JetBlue’s largest focus cities, Boston and Fort Lauderdale,” the airline said in a statement. “Within days, BlueFirst will expand to select flights between Fort Lauderdale and New York’s LaGuardia Airport with additional routes to follow in the weeks and months ahead.”

JetBlue has taken over the No. 1 spot at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International in flights and passenger traffic after the demise of Spirit Airlines in May. In August, the latest month for which airport data is available, JetBlue boasted a market share of 39.3% among the 24 airlines using the airport. The airline is projecting an operation of 150 flights a day by 2027 as the airport takes on the status of a major hub for JetBlue’s U.S. and international flights.

“This is just the beginning,” Joanna Geraghty, the airline’s chief executive officer, said of the first-class service introduction. “As we bring BlueFirst to more aircraft, customers will see it become available on routes and in markets across our network, giving them even more opportunities to choose an elevated JetBlue experience.”

BlueFirst differs from the airline’s “Mint” premium business-class service. The latter features lie-flat seats and elevated dining, primarily offered on longer-haul and transatlantic flights, a spokesperson said.

The new first-class service will be offered aboard JetBlue flights that do not have Mint. “BlueFirst features spacious reclining seats in a dedicated 2-by-2 cabin, along with enhanced legroom, premium food and beverages, and priority airport benefits,” the spokesperson said.

Avelo launching West Palm Beach to North Dallas

Discounter Avelo Airlines said it will start nonstop service between West Palm Beach’s President Donald J. Trump International Airport and North Dallas/McKinney National Airport starting Dec. 17.

The carrier said it is the “first and only airline offering nonstop service” between the two airports.

Avelo bills the Texas airport as a “hassle-free alternative to larger Dallas-area airports.”

The Dallas addition lifts the number of destinations served by Avelo out of West Palm Beach with nonstop flights to three. The other two are Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport and Philadelphia/Delaware Valley’s Wilmington Airport.

At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, Avelo plans to launch service to McKinney National on Nov. 19. It currently serves New Haven, Conn., and Wilmington, Del. In August, the airline had a market share of 0.5% at the Broward County airport.
