JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The man Jacksonville police say died after he accidentally shot himself earlier this week was a Marine.
A GoFundMe for Jordan Joines’ family says the 21-year-old was a proud member of the Marine Corps, enlisting straight out of high school.
“His passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of his beautiful wife, Aaliyah, his family, his friends, and all those whose lives he touched,” the fundraising page says.
The shooting happened at 123-A Sanders Street Monday.
Officers found Joines in the front yard with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
He accidentally shot himself while demonstrating the gun’s mechanics to several people, according to police.
Funeral and memorial service details for Joines will be released in the coming days, according to the fundraiser.
The department is still investigating.
