The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a huge blow as their versatile rookie, Travis Hunter, will miss the remainder of the NFL season. The team announced on Tuesday that the wide receiver and cornerback had undergone surgery to repair his right knee’s LCL.
Jacksonville Jaguars’ statement
“Earlier today, WR/DB Travis Hunter underwent successful surgery to repair an isolated lateral collateral ligament (LCL) injury in his right knee. Beyond the LCL, there was no additional damage to the knee. Hunter will miss the remainder of the 2025 season, but is expected to return within six months to full football activities,” the Jaguars announced on their social media.
Surgery details and recovery timeline
The procedure took place in Dallas and revealed no additional damage beyond the LCL tear, according to the Jaguars’ official statement. Hunter, who suffered the noncontact injury during defensive drills on October 30, has been placed on injured reserve.
The team remains optimistic about his future. “Hunter is expected to return to full football activities within six months,” the Jaguars said. This timeline positions the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner for a strong comeback ahead of the 2025 season.
Travis Hunter’s impressive rookie stats
Despite playing in limited games, Travis Hunter showcased his remarkable potential. On offense, he recorded 28 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, he contributed 15 tackles and three pass breakups.
Hunter logged 67% of the team’s offensive snaps and 36% on defense in his appearances. His dual-role usage highlighted his unique skill set, drawing comparisons to NFL greats like Charles Woodson.
In his previous NFL game, Hunter delivered his strongest offensive outing as a professional, hauling in eight receptions for 104 yards and scoring his inaugural touchdown in the league amid a 35-7 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in London during Week 7.
Jacksonville Jaguars’ next challenge amid setbacks
The Jaguars enter a tough stretch at 5-4. Last week’s collapse against the Houston Texans, exposed their defensive vulnerabilities. The Jaguars are set to host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The team must rally without Hunter, relying on veterans to stabilize both sides of the ball.
