• I recently booked parking near Orlando International Airport at a great rate of $49.38 for seven days. Then the fees: Booking fee $6.49, lot taxes and fees $14.55, sales tax $4.15, privilege fee recovery charge (?) $6.39 and airport access fee $4. Total fees: $35.58. Not at all ticked off at the total cost, but what’s next? “Free parking” and add a “have a safe trip” fee?
• I’m ticked off that “high volume” is still being used as a reason/excuse for slow customer service.
• The younger generation can’t understand how the older generation became “wealthy.” We don’t buy every tech gadget that comes along, spend money on take-out coffees or give children everything they want. We don’t buy more than we can afford, we repair rather than replace, we have a budget, limit eating out and don’t order the most expensive item, stick with one job until we have another, pay attention to politics and vote, save for years to get into a home of our own. And then one day, we are “wealthy!”
The flip side
• I want to publicly thank the young man who helped this 81-year-old navigate using the gas pump at the BJ’s at S.R. 436 and U.S. 17-92. He was kind, patient and thoughtful. Your mother would be proud of you.
• A thousand thanks to the kind, honest person who took my dropped phone to customer service at the Wekiva Plaza Publix. Words can’t really adequately express my grateful thanks.
