CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — Cape Coral kept its undefeated district record intact Friday night, defeating Immokalee 35-27 in a crucial Class 5A-District 11 matchup.

The Seahawks improved to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in district play, extending their winning streak to four games. Immokalee dropped to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the district.

Coming into Friday, Immokalee boasted one of Southwest Florida’s toughest defenses, allowing just 52 points through seven games and recording back-to-back shutouts.

But Cape Coral entered with plenty of offensive momentum of its own.

“Offense is doing really well right now,” Cape Coral head coach Jaylen Watkins said before the game. “Our guys on the offense side of the ball and making plays.”

Watkins emphasized the importance of creating turnovers and giving his offense as many possessions as possible.

Immokalee, meanwhile, was looking to continue its defensive dominance.

“They play tough, they care hard. They play hard for each other,” Immokalee head coach James Delgado said before kickoff.

The Indians struck first when running back Youvensley Methelus broke free for a touchdown, putting Immokalee ahead 7-0.

But Cape Coral battled back, eventually securing the 35-27 victory and handing Immokalee its second district loss of the season.

The victory puts the Seahawks in a strong position heading into their next district matchup against Charlotte on Friday, Oct. 23.

Immokalee will look to bounce back when it hosts Riverdale that same night.
