A woman forbidden from returning to a Belle Isle home she once trespassed came back anyway to set it on fire, police said.

Newell Walls, 41, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with arson after Belle Isle police accused her of trying to burn a house on Stockbridge Avenue following a dispute with the homeowner.

A judge on Wednesday ordered she stay in the Orange County Jail without bond, with her next court appearance set for Thursday morning.

The homeowner, according to a Belle Isle police affidavit, said Walls began “screaming nonsense” at him when he walked into the house around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. She then “began pouring gas onto everything in the carport and lighting it” after she burned paper inside the house, engulfing the house in flames.

Orange County Fire Rescue put out the fire, and Walls was found under the carport of a nearby vacant home.

No residents or first responders were harmed, but Walls was treated for minor burns on her hands and feet, according to the affidavit. In addition to arson, she is charged with trespassing after warning.

Court records show she had been to that house before.

In November 2025, Walls was arrested there by police after the homeowner said she trespassed earlier that day, according to an arrest affidavit.

Walls pleaded no contest in June to trespassing and was sentenced to time served and ordered to pay fines. She also was issued a no-contact order and was prohibited from returning to the home as part of the agreement, records show.

The affidavit in her most recent arrest further notes she was trespassed once again 11 days before setting the house on fire.
