A Miami woman was tracked down and arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian dead in Dania Beach early Saturday.

Broward deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived near the 200 block of Sheridan Street just after 1:30 a.m. and found a man lying in the road. Fire Rescue personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

According to Broward investigators, the man was crossing the westbound lanes of Sheridan Street when he was struck by a 2024-2026 Hyundai Sonata. The driver of the vehicle fled, but detectives were able to identify the car based on vehicle parts that were left due to impact.

Detectives located the Sonata and arrested Keila Maldonado, 21, on Saturday as the hit-and-run driver, according to the sheriff’s office.

Maldonado faces one count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and one count of fail to stop and or remain on scene of an accident involving death.

The victim’s identity was withheld by the sheriff’s office under Marsy’s Law.
