MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team (3-11, 1-6 MAC) dropped an 8-0 decision to Miami (10-4, 6-1 MAC) on Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.

The Miami Redhawks surged ahead early, striking twice in the opening minutes to secure a rapid 2-0 lead over Ball State. Refusing to back down, the Cardinals tightened their defense and sparked momentum on the offensive end, though they couldn’t capitalize on several penalty corners. Miami added one more goal before the first quarter expired to push their lead to 3-0.

Ball State’s trademark defense dug in during the second frame, limiting the Redhawks to just a single goal. Highlighted by goalkeeper Carleigh Hofelich, who made her seventh save of the day to reach a major milestone—her 200th career save—with under a minute left in the half, the Cardinals kept the game within reach.

After halftime, the RedHawks tacked on four more goals to widen their lead. Despite the Cardinals’ efforts, Ball State couldn’t overcome the early deficit, ultimately falling to Miami.

The Ball State field hockey team will host Ohio on Friday, October 23 at noon at the Briner Sports Complex.
