MIAMI —
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is set to announce an arrest warrant for former Cuban President Raul Castro during a news conference in Miami in about an hour, where he will be joined by Gov. Ron DeSantis and Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz.
Multiple news outlets report that the announcement will provide an update regarding Castro, who is facing a no-bond charge of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in Miami.
The arrest warrant stems from the 1996 Brothers to the Rescue shootdown, in which two planes belonging to the Miami-based Cuban exile organization were shot down.
A judge found probable cause to believe Castro conspired to commit first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of four men aboard the civilian planes.
The attorney general’s office reopened the state’s investigation into Castro after Uthmeier took office in 2025. Uthmeier is expected to formally announce the arrest warrant during the news conference.
