Students at selected Broward County public schools will have access to free menstrual hygiene products under a one-year pilot program approved by the School Board on Oct. 13.
The district will select at least seven schools representing different grade levels and communities. Products will be available in designated student restrooms to help reduce barriers to learning and support student wellness.
“This pilot program reflects our commitment to supporting the well-being, dignity and academic success of every student,” School Board Chair Sarah Leonardi said. “By providing access to essential feminine hygiene products during the school day, we are helping ensure students can remain focused on learning and fully participate in their educational experience.”
Broward County Public Schools will fund the products, dispensers and replenishment needs throughout the pilot. Administrators will track usage, costs and operational considerations while evaluating the program’s effectiveness.
At the end of the pilot, the superintendent will present a report to the School Board outlining findings, financial impacts and recommendations on whether to expand the program or make it permanent.
According to the Broward County School Board, those seven schools have not been decided.
