Jacksonville woman expecting DoorDash delivery instead finds 2 children left at her door, man arrested

  • October 20, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man is facing two felony child neglect charges after he allegedly left two young children unattended outside an apartment before running away, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO says Ezra Tyson, 24, was arrested in the early morning hours of Oct. 18, on an active arrest warrant. Officers say they located Tyson at a business on Norwood Ave. and took him into custody.

Incident

According to the arrest warrant, the incident occurred Oct. 9. A witness at an apartment complex told police that Tyson knocked on her door and left two children standing outside before walking away. The witness said she opened her door moments later, expecting a DoorDash delivery, and found the two children standing outside — unsupervised and unannounced.

A DoorDash driver who arrived at the scene told police he witnessed a man running away on foot. The witness was also able to view a brief preview of her doorbell camera footage, which showed Tyson at the door leaving the children, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Tyson did not make contact with any adults at the apartment before leaving the children, and the witness said she was unsure how Tyson knew her address.

Arrest

A warrant for Tyson’s arrest was issued Oct. 12. Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office executed the warrant on Oct. 18.

After being read his Miranda rights, JSO says Tyson told officers he was on the phone when he dropped the children off and that the people at the location knew he was bringing the children, according to the report.

Tyson is charged with two counts of child neglect, a third-degree felony. Bond was set at $10,003 per count. As conditions of his release, Tyson is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with minors, contact with the victim, or possession of firearms or weapons. He is also required to wear a GPS or ankle monitor.
