Woman accused of defrauding Navy Federal members in Jacksonville, causing a $22K loss

  • October 20, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman is accused of making unauthorized withdrawals from Navy Federal Credit Union members’ accounts at Jacksonville branches, causing the credit union to lose $22,500, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Carrie Dempsey, 50, was arrested Oct. 16 on a warrant after being transported from the Turner County Jail in Georgia, the report says. She is charged with organized fraud and criminal use of personal identification information.

The report says the alleged transactions occurred Aug. 12-18, 2026. Two members told investigators they did not authorize the transactions and were reimbursed by the credit union, according to the report.

Investigators documented four completed transactions totaling $25,400 and one attempted $9,800 transaction at Navy Federal locations around Jacksonville.

The arrest report says the credit union’s loss after reimbursements was $22,500.

The report lists bonds of $50,003 on the fraud charge and $25,003 on each of two listed identity-information charges. Dempsey has not been found guilty.
