Luis Xavier De PeñaORLANDO, Fla. —

An attempt was made to establish a spooky-themed world record at ICON Park on Wednesday.

Organized by Merlin Entertainments, the company called upon Central Florida to establish the record for the most people dressed as witches riding an observation wheel at the same time.

The event was only an hour long and allowed any guests dressed in a witch costume to ride The Orlando Eye for free to help make history.

A spokesperson for the company, Noel Brooks, said the Eye was chosen because it’s the tallest observation wheel on the East Coast, and it’s in “the heart of Orlando.”

Brooks said when the team got together, they wanted to do something different for October. She said they wanted to get all of Central Florida together to achieve something special that would make Orlando stand out.

“I mean, establishing a world record, like having the most people dressed as witches as possible on The Orlando Eye at one time, it’d be wonderful,” Brooks said. “It’d be something super fun. It’s just something that we’d be really proud of.”

Jocelyn Aranda said she was excited to get her family out to the event after she saw the announcement on social media. She said she wanted her kids to be a part of history.

Aranda also said that an event like this is what makes raising a family in Orlando fun.

“It’s just helping continue to put Orlando on the map, not just as a travel destination, but a great place for families to grow up and raise their babies, and they get to do so many awesome things like this,” Aranda said.

Within the one-hour event, The Orlando Eye saw roughly 204 witches participate and 118 ride the Eye at the same time.

The official number is still being calculated, but Merlin Entertainments believes it surpassed the number needed to establish the record.
