A dispute over the construction of a fence in Miami-Dade escalated when a man allegedly armed himself with a sword and threatened to shoot a contractor and cut off his head, according to an arrest report.
Alvaro Alejandro Fonseca was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, records show.
Police said officers were called around 3:18 p.m. to the 1500 block of Southwest 122nd Avenue after receiving a report of a dispute.
According to the arrest report, the confrontation began over a gated fence being built next to Fonseca’s residence.
The contractor told police that the owner of the property had permission from the city to build the fence. He and Fonseca became involved in a verbal dispute that escalated, the report said.
Investigators said Fonseca went inside his residence and armed himself with a sword amid the dispute.
According to the arrest report, Fonseca allegedly threatened the contractor, saying he was going to shoot him twice in the head and cut off his head with the sword.
The contractor told officers he feared for his life and began recording the encounter, police said. He also took a photograph that investigators said showed Fonseca armed with the sword.
Police said Fonseca was read his Miranda rights and denied making the threats. The arresting officer wrote in the report that Fonseca’s account of what happened was inconsistent.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
His bond was listed as “to be set” in the records provided.
