Friday marks the completion of the expansion of Cape Coral Parkway to three lanes on both sides, with drivers hopeful the changes will improve traffic flow.
“It’s nice having a smooth new road to be on,” said Ashley Cahill, who uses the parkway daily.
“It really should help with the flow, especially like peak time when traffic is busier on the bridge, knowing you’re coming into Cape with two to then going to three lanes should help,” she said.
Fresh pavement now stretches across south Cape Coral, and drivers are already noticing the improvements. Chelsea Boyle, another Cape Coral resident, shared her thoughts on the newly completed road.
“It looks really, really nice because, you know, we also don’t like the potholes, the rain and the sun and it really tear these roads apart. So, it’s nice to see fresh roads, especially on Cape Coral Parkway. This is our hub,” Boyle said.
Despite the improvements, drivers also raised concerns about potential traffic issues. “Nervous for the mornings when you’re going from three to two, but we’ll see. Hopefully the hidden motorcycle cops will help kind of keep traffic flowing and people not cutting others off to be in a rush,” she said.
The city noted that some final work, including lining and paving, may continue Friday night. Crews were seen on the street earlier.
