JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Dolphins fell to the Queens Royals Friday night in a five-set thriller (25-20, 20-25, 22-25, 25-18, 8-15).

Jacksonville (10-11, 4-3 ASUN) was led by freshman Jaylyn Tuiasosopo who turned in a career night. She led the team with a career-high 20 kills, also adding 14 digs for good measure.

Set One

The Dolphins as a team were rolling offensively, hitting .275 as a unit. Graduate student Abbie Tuyo led the way, ripping six kills early. Tuiasosopo was right on her heels, scoring five kills at a blistering .625 hitting percentage.

The Jacksonville defense put the ‘Phins on set point, with senior Jade Cuya Cobos and sophomore Addison Krieger coming up with a big block. Three points later, Tuyo’s sixth of the set ended things with a JU win.

Set Two

Despite seven kills from Tuiasosopo, the Dolphins dropped the second set by five points. The set was close late, with a Tuyo kill cutting the deficit to three, 22-19. Queens won three of the last four points, though, to tie the match at one set.

Set Three

Queens led by four, 22-18, but Jacksonville was to the task. Tuyo and Tuiasosopo scored, then sophomore Kathryn Adler notched her first of the day to make it a one-point game. The Royals won three of the final four points to close the set, 25-22.

Set Four

The fourth set was the most decisive performance from the ‘Phins. Jacksonville held Queens to a .039 hitting percentage as a team. The Dolphins tallied six total blocks, with Krieger scoring three assists and a solo rejection.

Junior Haley Yount tied the set at 13, then an error put JU in front. From there, the Dolphins led the rest of the way. Jacksonville ended on a 7-2 run to force a fifth set for the fourth-straight match.

Set Five

Queens jumped to a 5-0 lead in the fifth set. The Royals closed things out, 15-8.
