MILWAUKEE — Never count out these Brewers. Down 4-0, Milwaukee rallied to take down the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-4, to win Game 2 of the World Series.

It’s hard to think of a worse way for things to start for the Brewers. After an error let leadoff hitter Yandy Díaz aboard, the Rays pounced on starting pitcher Logan Henderson for 4 runs in the first inning including a 2-run home run by Liam Hicks.

The Brewers immediately began chipping away, in their usual style, with RBI singles from William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to 4-2.

The chipping continued in the fourth inning when Cooper Pratt scored on a Bill Buckner-esque error by first baseman Jonathan Aranda.

Sal Frelick did a bit more than chipping when leading off the sixth inning. He blasted a ball deep to center field to tie the game. In the seventh inning, Pratt delivered an RBI single to give the Crew the lead.

While the Brewers’ batters were chipping away, their pitchers kept the Rays in check. After his rough first inning, Henderson, to his credit, allowed just one baserunner and struck out 2 batters. The Milwaukee bullpen took over in the fourth inning, allowed traffic on the basepaths but got the outs they needed to.

They were helped by some great defensive plays including in the sixth inning, when Jackson Chourio delivered a beautiful throw from left field to cut down Liam Hicks at home plate.

Aaron Ashby continued to be a force on the mound, sitting down the first two batters he faced in the eighth inning. He allowed a leadoff double in the ninth but rallied to sit down the next 2 batters. That brought up Díaz, who worked a full count but struck out swinging to end things.

The Brewers take a strong 2-0 lead and will head to Tampa on Monday looking to move one step closer to World Series glory.
