TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – As election season rolls on, the race for City Commission Seat 5 remains tense.
Dot Inman Johnson has filed a lawsuit against political action committee (PAC) Tallahassee United, which backs her opponent, Dianne Williams-Cox.
The lawsuit zeroes in on ads and mailers sent by the PAC accusing Inman-Johnson of taking cash for votes.
According to the suit, the ads cite a newspaper article speculating about a 1988 land swap deal.
The suit argues that the claim is false, and the language pushes the idea that Inman-Johnson was convicted by some legal authority.
Court documents argue Inman-Johnson’s reputation has been hurt by the ads and flyers.
Inman-Johnson hosted a press conference on Monday to talk about the lawsuit.

Inman-Johnson laid out the allegations in the defamation suit and spoke alongside local pastors and other supporters.
“So when people started calling to my attention to the truly ugly and false ads that they were receiving in their mailbox about me, I could not believe it because they could not find something real to use against me,” Inman-Johnson said.
The suit names the PAC and notes it has contributed to Williams-Cox’s campaign.
WCTV reached out to Williams-Cox about the lawsuit.
She said she is focused on the shooting over the weekend and was not focused on other things at the moment.
Inman-Johnson did not mention the Perry Street shooting at her press conference on Monday.
