A possible bomb threat has targeted schools statewide, including Lee County, but district officials do not believe the threat is credible.

In a recent communication, Lee County school officials assured families that the safety and security of their schools remain a top priority.

“We are actively implementing all necessary protocols to ensure the protection of our educational environments,” said district officials in an email sent late Tuesday night.

This incident brings to mind the 2022 emergency at South Fort Myers High School, where a fake 911 call reported an active shooter on campus. The school was placed on lockdown while deputies and worried parents responded swiftly to the scene.

Despite the current threat being deemed non-credible, district officials are collaborating with law enforcement to investigate the situation.

Authorities from Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples, and Punta Gorda police departments, along with sheriffs’ offices in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, DeSoto and Hendry counties, have been contacted to determine if there will be extra patrols on campus.
