Republican incumbent Brian Mast is campaigning for reelection in Florida’s 21st Congressional District, which includes St. Lucie, Martin, and parts of northern Palm Beach County, highlighting his focus on water quality, veterans’ care, and tax relief.
As he seeks a sixth term in Congress, Mast said his priorities remain unchanged, pointing to his years of work on South Florida’s water quality issues, particularly efforts to reduce discharges from Lake Okeechobee.
“That means building the EAA reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee, working on the next management plan for Lake Okeechobee,” Mast said.
Mast described protecting local waterways as a top concern, emphasizing the importance of the Treasure Coast’s estuaries and waterways to both the environment and the local economy.
“Ten years ago, our waterways were probably the worst the community has ever seen in terms of toxic, microsystin algae discharges coming out of Lake O,” Mast said. “Some of the things I have done is get the EPA to write a standard as to what is toxic, we did that.”
Mast also said veterans remain central to his work in Congress, ensuring those who served receive the care and support they have earned.
As chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Mast said he is focused on identifying waste and inefficiency throughout the federal government.
“It’s rooting out that waste, that fraud, that abuse,” Mast said.
He added that reducing government spending and lowering taxes are key to lowering costs for Florida families.
“The government has to do more with less, so that the people can do more with their money,” Mast said.
Mast said tax relief is the most straightforward way Congress can help families keep more of what they earn.
“It’s cutting your taxes, it’s reducing your taxes in every single tax bracket,” Mast said.
