The World Series MVP’s value extended well beyond his production at the plate, as he also anchored Milwaukee’s defense behind home. He controlled the running game by catching would be base stealers, kept pitches in front of him, guided the pitching staff with smart calls and excelled when challenging calls through the ABS system. Given how much he contributed defensively, there’s a strong case that his work behind the plate was just as impressive as his .381 average in the World Series.

Even with a Tampa Bay rally looking unlikely, Milwaukee needed to prevent the Rays from gaining any traction. William Contreras once again played his part, finishing 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to help the Brewers maintain control.
Contreras’ steady presence in the series’ biggest moments helped Milwaukee close out Tampa Bay in five games. For a franchise that has waited a long time for a championship, Contreras stands out as the complete catcher who made the difference when it mattered most.
