BGSU women’s soccer (7-3-6, 3-2-5) left Bobby Kraming Field in Oxford, Ohio, with a 2-2 draw against the Miami RedHawks (8-6-4, 4-2-4) to claim one point towards the Mid-American Conference (MAC) standings.

BG entered Oxford sitting at seventh place in the MAC standings while being tied with fifth-place Ball State and sixth-place Kent State, with all three teams having 13 points apiece. On the outside looking in to the six-team MAC playoffs, Bowling Green desperately needed points with only two games remaining in the season, including the match against Miami.

Miami opened the scoring halfway through the first half when senior forward/midfielder Katie O’Malley stole the ball away from BG’s team captain and senior defender Taylor Green, directly leading to a two-on-zero opportunity for Miami in the 25th minute. Freshman forward Averie Bierker finished off the play to give Miami a 1-0 lead with O’Malley earning an assist on the goal.

Bowling Green tied the game in the dying minutes of the first half when senior forward Lizzie Bultynck scored in the 44th minute following a centering pass from freshman forward Olivia McCuen, which deflected to Bultynck’s foot off a Miami defender. McCuen was credited with an assist on the goal.

Miami regained the lead in the 61st minute when a crossing pass from junior forward Millie Cook was headed into the back of the net by senior forward/midfielder Kayla Perfect.

Mirroring the first half, BGSU once again tied the game late in the half thanks to a shot placed in the top right corner by junior midfielder Minah Syam after receiving a crossing pass from Isabella Mazzaferro.

Despite BG gaining momentum following the Syam goal, the Falcons weren’t able to sneak another ball past Miami’s senior goalkeeper Dominique Popa, who finished the match with two saves.

The final horn sounded with the score tied at 2-2, marking BG’s sixth draw of the season and fifth in conference play. The Falcons’ five draws in conference play are tied with UMass and Toledo for the most in the MAC.

The Orange and Brown finished the game having doubled Miami’s shot output for both shot attempts and shots on goal. The Falcons recorded 10 shot attempts to Miami’s five and four shots on goal to the RedHawks’ two.

With their draw against the RedHawks, the Falcons remain at seventh place in the MAC standings and will need to win their final game of the season to have a chance to make the MAC playoffs.

BGSU women’s soccer will wrap up the regular season by hosting Ohio at Cochrane Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 1.
