Today on Arts Alive! the discussion is all about the newly-opened Penny Lane Beatles Museum in downtown St. Petersburg. We’re in the studio with founder Dr. Robert Entel, whose personal memorabilia collection fills the 2,100-square-foot former storefront at 146 2nd Street N., and Executive Director Craig Bachner.
After 10 years in Dunedin, inside a 500-square-foot upstairs space, the museum was relocated to St. Petersburg for two reasons: One, the place is four times as big (and, Entel explains, there’s still not enough room for everything in his collection); and two, it’s St. Petersburg.
And that means not only the potential for more visitors, but Penny Lane is now in the vaunted company of the Dali, the James, the MFA and the other top-shelf downtown museums.
It’s all, both men say, in the service of all that great music, and one of the most colorful and unusual stories in all of pop culture. Visit the website to learn more about what goes on.
Sunday (Nov. 1), and again Nov. 4 and 8, the Penny Lane Beatles Museum’s regular admission fee will be waived between 10 a.m. (opening time) and noon. This is part of the Creative Pinellas “Art Everywhere” campaign.
And they do appreciate you being ‘round.
