Congressman Greg Murphy hosted a roundtable discussion with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins at the Carolina Museum of the Marine in Jacksonville.
According to organizers, the event provided an opportunity for local veterans to discuss challenges they face and hear about the VA’s efforts to improve access to benefits, health care and other services.
Murphy, who serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, said hearing directly from veterans is an important part of addressing their needs.

“As the representative of over 76,000 veterans and a senior member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, fulfilling our promise to look after those who sacrificed so much to serve our country has always been one of my top priorities in Congress,” Murphy said.
Murphy said the discussion also focused on the department’s work to reduce backlogs, improve access to health care and eliminate administrative barriers.

“While tremendous progress has been made in enhancing access to quality healthcare, providing benefits, reducing backlog, and eliminating bureaucracy, there is still more work to do,” Murphy said.
Murphy said he plans to continue working to address issues affecting veterans across eastern North Carolina.
