William Contreras earned World Series MVP honors after delivering an outstanding performance in the Milwaukee Brewers’ five-game triumph over the Tampa Bay Rays. He capped off his impressive series with an RBI double in the decisive Game 5, finishing the matchup with eight hits and four RBIs across five games.
Just days after capturing the World Series championship and MVP honors, Contreras added another distinction to his growing list of accolades, this time earning recognition in a more lighthearted and modest fashion.
“I don’t want to offend any of the other catchers in the league,” Contreras remarked via an interpreter.
“The last thing I want to do is offend any of them, But sitting up here today, champion of the world, I feel like I’m the best catcher in the league. Again, that’s no disrespect to any of them. That’s the last thing I want to do. But today I feel like I’m the best catcher in the world.”

Contreras’ playoff run has given him a strong argument for being considered baseball’s best catcher. He made a major impact at the plate, batting .373 with three home runs and nine RBIs throughout the postseason.
His contributions were especially noticeable in the World Series, where he recorded multiple hits in three consecutive games to help Milwaukee take a 3-0 series advantage. He was just as effective behind the plate, throwing out four baserunners and winning 10-of-13 ABS challenges while showcasing his pitch-framing skills.

Few catchers can match the impact Contreras made on both offense and defense throughout the postseason. His role in bringing a championship to Milwaukee only strengthens his case as one of the game’s premier players at the position. After a performance like that, anyone looking to challenge his claim as baseball’s top catcher will have a high bar to clear.
