Democrats gathered at the Shiloh Baptist Church Life Center in Orlando Friday night for a rally aimed at energizing voters ahead of Election Day.

Senate candidate Angie Nixon was joined by Congressman Maxwell Frost, Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, former congresswoman Val Demings, and candidate for Orange County mayor Tiffany Moore Russell.

Moore Russell led the crowd in a chant of Nixon’s name and encouraged attendees to spread the message to Daytona Beach, where President Donald Trump held a rally of his own Friday.

Moore Russell said the rally was not just for those who had yet to vote but also for those who had already cast their ballots.

“Take out your phone and call five friends and say, ‘What is your plan? Are you going to vote early or are you going to vote on Election Day?’ What’s what we’re asking folks to do,” Moore Russell said.

The rally, described as a “final push rally,” culminated with remarks from Nixon, who addressed the challenges she has faced during her campaign.

“They done spent over $25 million to lie on me, y’all. $25 million to lie to the state that I’m ‘an extremist,’ I’m ‘radical,’ ‘socialist.’ There is nothing radical or extreme or about wanting to ensure people don’t die because they can’t afford healthcare. There’s absolutely nothing extreme or radical about wanting to ensure people get paid a living wage,” Nixon said.

She also responded to the names she has been called during the campaign and expressed confidence in her supporters.

“They can call me whatever they want to call me. They can say whatever they want to say, but ’cause y’all going to be knocking on doors and making phone calls and pushing back on this misinformation, at 9 p.m. on Nov. 3 they will be calling me ‘senator,'” Nixon said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

With just a few days left until election day, the campaign stops will continue through Tuesday.
