Allen ConeGREENACRES, Fla. —

A portion of Military Trail will be closed until further notice after the Learjet plane crash Sunday afternoon near Greenacres, forcing about 600 people in a mobile home park to be evacuated.

“It looked like a missile going down,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said at a news conference near the crash site. “There is a big crater on the side of the road.

“There is a lot of debris that was strewn as a result of this crash.”

Military Trail is closed between 10th Avenue North and Purdy Lane/Alameda Drive.

The public is asked to detour around this area using 10th Avenue North and Purdy Lane/Alameda Drive for east-west travel and Haverhill Road and Kirk Road for north-south travel.

Palm Beach County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo said they hope to have an alternate route for Military Trail by Monday.

Only emergency vehicles are now permitted access. Law enforcement will be on site redirecting non-emergency traffic and assisting local residents, as needed, the county said in a news release.

“The Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works Department recognizes that this is a major thoroughfare and understands the inconvenience this closure may cause,” the county said in a news release. “We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to re-open the roadway.”

People at the Cresthaven mobile home park are impacted with the only entrance closed because “it is a crime scene,” Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel G. Flores, whose District 3 serves the area, said.

“We evacuating the adjacent community,” Flores said. “People we will have a shelter.

“They will have a place to stay for the night.”

One shelter is the Greenacres Community Center at 501 Swain Blvd.

Also, the Red Cross is on standby.

State Rep. Debra Tendrich, whose 89th House district serves the area, said her office is available to assist.
