High waters driven by stormy weather conditions in Brevard County forced Brightline to suspend its passenger service between West Palm Beach and Orlando, the Miami-based railroad said Monday.

The higher-speed rail line’s South Florida service is unaffected as all trains serving West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura and Miami are running as scheduled.

The railroad is aiming for a 2 p.m. resumption of the Orlando service on Tuesday.

Brightline said “high water conditions impacting the rail corridor in Brevard County” on Florida’s Space Coast triggered the temporary halt of service.

Management advised customers to monitor GoBrightline.com, the Brightline app and social media channels for  service updates.

“The safety of our guests, teammates and the communities we serve remains our highest priority,” the company said in a news release. “Maintenance personnel are on scene, and train service will resume when conditions allow safe movement through the area.”

Brightline added that rail infrastructure teams are monitoring conditions in coordination with Florida East Coast Railway, which owns the corridor, and Brevard County Emergency Management.

“Once water levels recede, all tracks, signals and crossings in the affected area will be thoroughly inspected before passenger service resumes.” Brightline said.

Affected customers with reservations are being contacted directly regarding their travel options.
