JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews responded to a residential fire Monday evening, where they found a man dead inside the home.
At 5 p.m., JFRD crews were dispatched to a home on West 17th Street near the Grand Park neighborhood. Engine 7 arrived on scene at 5:03 p.m. and found fire showing on the exterior of the home, according to JFRD.
The department said crews began an aggressive fire attack while Ladder 7 conducted an interior search. During the search, crews located an adult male, deceased, in the room where the fire appears to have originated.
The fire was declared under control at 5:12 p.m. — approximately nine minutes after the first unit arrived on scene, according to JFRD.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
“This is a heartbreaking loss, and our hearts are with this man’s family tonight,” said JFRD Director/Fire Chief Percy Golden II. “Our crews got there fast, fought hard, and did everything they could to reach a good outcome. We never want a call to end this way.”
