GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lorenzo Laverne Rose Jr., 22, was arrested yesterday for allegedly possessing a firearm as a convicted felon after officers responded to a shooting in the 800 block of NE 24th Street.
At about 11:45 a.m. on November 1, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to calls about a drive-by shooting in the 800 block of NE 24th Street. Witnesses said a vehicle occupied by at least two people fired several shots at a residence, and the occupants of the residence came outside and returned fire. Some casings were recovered at the scene, but no injuries were reported.
Officers reviewed surveillance video from a neighboring property that reportedly showed Rose holding a firearm, and the sound of a gunshot could be heard on the video.
Rose was found next door to the shooting location, wearing the same clothes as the suspect in the video.
Rose has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has two felony convictions (non-violent). His listed address is in Jacksonville, and he told Justice Support Services that he had only been in Alachua County for one day; however, he is also facing a sworn complaint for a domestic battery incident in Gainesville on October 10. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $50,000.
