CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
Cape Coral City Council voted at Monday night’s meeting to reject the nomination of Four Freedoms Park as a historic and cultural resource.
The site is set to undergo redevelopment as part of the approved Bimini East development plan.
Louis Madden, a Cape Coral resident, had attempted to preserve the park by nominating it for historic designation.
The council posited that the decision does not erase the park’s history.
The council’s resolution directs city staff to collaborate with the Cape Coral Historical Society to establish a historical monument for the park.
