VERO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Several neighborhoods in Vero Beach were flooded Monday after rounds of heavy rain moved through the area.
The scene along 41st Avenue and 12th Street, about a mile from Glendale Elementary School, showed water covering roads, front lawns and driveways. Neighbors said they have never seen flooding this severe in the area before.
Residents say the steady rain throughout the day overwhelmed drainage systems, leaving water with nowhere to go but into neighborhood streets and yards.
A photo shared by the sheriff’s office showed just how high the water rose at one point, with only the roof of an SUV visible above the floodwaters. Authorities have not said whether anyone was inside the vehicle.

Deputies are urging residents to stay off the roads and avoid driving through flooded areas, warning that conditions remain unsafe.
A CBS12 News crew will be back in affected neighborhoods Tuesday morning to assess any damage as residents continue waiting for floodwaters to recede.
