JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Tuesday morning, in front of over 10,235 students, teachers, and fans, the Jacksonville Icemen faced the Savannah Ghost Pirates in the first of two annual School Day Games this season. After blowing a 2-goal lead halfway through the third period, Jacksonville took a 3-2 overtime win, on a goal by Jacques Bouquot.
Savannah’s Max Dorrington and Jacksonville’s Drew Kuzma dropped the gloves just three seconds into the first period, setting the tone for the game. Once the blood was cleaned off the ice, the game resumed. Sixty-three seconds later, Icemen Captain Bennett MacArthur one-timed the puck into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Jacksonville’s Joey Berkopec gave them a 2-0 lead at the 15:20 mark of the first period.
After a scoreless second period, Savannah’s Emil Pieniniemi put the Ghost Pirates on the board just past the midway point of the third period. Sixty-one seconds later, Kasper Lundell tied the game and forced the game to OT. Bouquot’s OT game-winning goal for Jacksonville came at the 3:31 mark, for his third goal in two games.
