WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Republican Brian Mast has won another term representing Florida’s 21st Congressional District. He dominates against James Martin and Independent Alexander Cooke.
The district includes parts of Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties.
Mast, a combat veteran who has represented the region in Congress since 2017, chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He has highlighted veterans’ issues, national security, tax relief and his work for the Treasure Coast. Martin, a former Coast Guard officer and bomb-disposal specialist, has made affordability and representation central themes. Cooke is running without a party affiliation.
In an Oct. 20 report, WLRN profiled the candidates and noted differences over health care and the role of government. Mast has defended his record, while Martin has criticized Mast’s vote to repeal and replace parts of the Affordable Care Act. The race is also shaped by the new district boundaries, which were redrawn this year.
The next representative will vote on federal spending and legislation affecting health care, immigration, veterans’ benefits, disaster response and coastal projects. A member of Congress can introduce bills, conduct oversight and advocate for constituents, but funding and policy changes require action by the full House, Senate and president.
