TAMPA, Fla. — If you live in the Tampa Bay area, or just so happen to be visiting, you may have noticed the drier weather.

The mornings feel more crisp, and the humidity may not be as relentless. You may even catch yourself craving some warm soup and pumpkin spice lattes.

That’s because “false fall” is upon us.

What is “false fall?”

The Weather Channel describes false fall as a “seasonal fake-out” that happens when a cold front temporarily knocks back the heat, giving you a fleeting taste of cooler weather. But just as quickly as it comes — it fades.

“The sun is still high, daylight is still long, and the atmosphere hasn’t fully shifted yet,” the Weather Channel says. “Think of it as a seasonal teaser.”

As of the latest forecast, the Tampa Bay area will see a “back door” cold front trying to push in on Wednesday and Thursday, keeping the weather pleasant and dry into the upcoming weekend.

Tons of sunshine is still expected throughout the day. But you will notice more comfortable nights and early mornings in the mid to upper 60s, giving that “fall-like” feeling.

The humidity is expected to ramp back up Sunday afternoon ahead of the chance for a few scattered storms late Sunday into Monday. Comfy air could possibly usher back in by next Tuesday.
