Authorities in Fort Myers are actively searching for Michael Tion Archibald, who allegedly hit a police officer with his car during a traffic stop and fled the scene.

The incident took place Saturday night in a parking lot at Colonial Boulevard and Treeline Avenue in Fort Myers, east of Interstate 75. The area was blocked off for hours as police investigated.

Fort Myers Police confirmed the officer is in stable condition and remains hospitalized. Archibald reportedly hit the officer during a traffic stop at a 7-Eleven before driving away.

The vehicle Archibald was driving is described as a black 2019 Chevrolet Corvette with Florida plates DJ78TI.

Local community members have expressed concern for the safety of both law enforcement and gas station employees.

“When I first heard about this, I was concerned about the safety of our law enforcement, but also the safety of employees in the store,” said Cory Sheldon, a local resident.

Rachael Nolasco, another local, said, “That’s somebody’s family member that just got ran over while he’s doing a job to protect us in the community.”

Debbie Stuard, also from the area, shared her thoughts.

“You just hit not only a police officer, but he’s a human. And not knowing if he hurt him, if he killed him. I hope they get him,” Stuard said.

Archibald has a history of similar incidents. In February 2024, he was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer after a traffic stop led to a scuffle. He was sentenced to probation and required to complete aggressive driving and anger management courses.

If you see Archibald or the vehicle, authorities urge you not to approach. Call 911 immediately or submit a tip to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
