The Jacksonville Jaguars made their second roster move of the day at the safety position on Monday.
The Jaguars announced that they have waived safety Kahlef Hailassie. This move comes after the team signed veteran safety Juan Thornhill to the practice squad.
In early September, after the Jaguars released Darnell Savage, the team signed Hailassie.
As a rookie with Cleveland in 2023, Hailassie played 104 defensive snaps that season, most of which actually came at cornerback. He logged one pass breakup and allowed four completions on eight targets.
He did not play any defensive snaps in 2024, and he has not played any in 2025 with Jacksonville.

At the safety position, the Jaguars are without Eric Murray at the moment, who is on injured reserve. Starting next to Andrew Wingard has been Antonio Johnson.
Following Hailassie’s release, the only other safety on the 53-man roster currently is Rayuan Lane. It could be just a matter of time before Thornhill is signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
Behind Wingard and Johnson, Thornhill, who has appeared in 96 games and made 75 starts, brings an experienced presence to the position. This includes playing in 10 playoff games as well and winning two Super Bowls in Kansas City.
Throughout the season, we’ve also seen Anthony Campanile use his share of three safety looks, so Thornhill does have a potential path to seeing some playing time as well.
