Around noon, airport officials said the investigation was affecting Terminal 4 pre-security public areas for arrivals and departures.
Officials did not fully detail the nature of the investigation, but Broward County authorities told WSVN that they took the man into custody and the bomb squad retrieved the bag.
Authorities evacuated airport guests to other terminals during the probe, officials said.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this ongoing investigation. This is a developing situation and updates will be posted when available,” officials tweeted.
It was not revealed if charges were pressed against the man.
