TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A rescue owner accused of animal cruelty is set to stand trial in Tallahassee on Wednesday.
Judy Du Bois was arrested in May 2024 and charged with animal cruelty and confining animals without sufficient food and water. She faces 10 misdemeanor charges.

The trial comes nearly 18 months after Leon County Animal Control seized 90 dogs from Du Bois’ property on Sparrow Road.
Du Bois’ arrest report states the animals were living in filthy, unsanitary, and inhumane conditions. Video provided by Leon County shows dozens of dogs squeezed into muddy outdoor cages.
The Tallahassee Animal Service Center is putting out an urgent call for help after it was flooded with 67 dogs in one day.
Du Bois previously denied the allegations against her.
Her previous attorney, Cynthia Myers, sent WCTV a statement soon after Du Bois’ arrest.
“All of the charges lodged against a woman who is one of the backbones of our community regarding homeless animals are bogus,” Myers said. “Not only has this caring citizen been harmed, but animals in our community will, once again, pay the price, probably with their lives.”
Opening statements are set to begin Wednesday morning, and the trial is expected to last one full day.
