COLONIE – Allegiant Air, a low-cost carrier, will launch a new nonstop flight out of Albany International Airport next year.

The new route will run between Albany and Florida’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport starting on Feb. 13, according to a news release from the airline.

A one-way ticket for its nonstop service starts at $69 for a limited time, specifically for tickets booked by the end of the day Wednesday for travel between Feb. 13 and Aug. 18, according to the news release.

Tickets appear to typically range from $97 to $169, according to the company’s website. Flights will be offered on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, but will be reduced to Mondays and Fridays starting in March, said Albany International spokesman Matt Hunter.

On Tuesday, Allegiant announced 30 new nonstop routes across airports nationwide, including the one at Albany International.

“These additions provide convenient options for leisure travelers and reflect our commitment to expanding service where demand is strong,” said Allegiant’s chief commercial officer, Drew Wells.

The new flight will mark Allegiant’s seventh route out of Albany, Hunter said. The airline’s Albany lineup currently offers service to Florida via Orlando Sanford International Airport, Punta Gorda Airport, Sarasota Bradenton International Airport and St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, as well as flights to Nashville International Airport in Tennessee and Myrtle Beach International Airport in South Carolina, Hunter said. Allegiant began offering flights out of Albany in 2018.

“Seven years after Allegiant first launched service at Albany International Airport, we’re proud to see this partnership continue to grow,” said Albany airport CEO Peter Stuto. “The new Fort Lauderdale route gives Capital Region travelers another exciting destination, especially as so many residents look to fly south during the winter and spring.”

Hunter said the only other airline to offer flights out of Albany to Fort Lauderdale is JetBlue.
