FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBS12) — Travelers at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) are experiencing disruptions on Tuesday as law enforcement investigates a security-related incident in Terminal 4.
According to airport officials on X, access to pre-security public areas on both the arrivals and departures levels of Terminal 4 was restricted on Tuesday afternoon.
Airport officials have not disclosed specific details about the nature of the investigation, but reports indicate that law enforcement is actively diverting passengers and visitors to unaffected terminals. However, the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) said investigators detained a man after he claimed to have a bomb in his bag.
The BSO Bomb Squad Unit responded to the scene, secured the bag, and assessed the threat, according to our news partners at CBS Miami.
Around 2 p.m., the Airport announced that Terminal 4 is resolved and closed, and airport operations have returned to normal.
Terminal 4, known as the International Terminal, handles many non-precleared international arrivals and departures. It houses Concourse G and recently reopened Concourse H, which serves several international carriers. The terminal remains operational for flights, but travelers should expect delays and possible rerouting for check-in and baggage claim services.
