City of Tallahassee

The City of Tallahassee will close administrative offices in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28. Following are schedule changes for the week of Nov. 23-29 for solid waste customers living inside the Tallahassee city limits (red week), StarMetro, the Animal Service Center and City-run community centers:

Garbage and Recycling Collection: During the holiday week, some residential garbage, recycling, bulky items and yard waste customers will receive service one day later than their regularly scheduled service.

Monday customers ► No change

Tuesday customers ► No change

Wednesday customers ► No change

Thursday customers ► Friday, Nov. 28

Friday customers ► Saturday, Nov. 29

Customers are encouraged to set their collection bins behind the curb the night before their service day. Both containers must be returned to the home no later than the day after collection. Bulky items and yard waste should be placed behind the curb no earlier than the weekend before your collection day. To look up collection dates for specific addresses, please visit Talgov.com. StarMetro Routes: StarMetro, the City’s mass transit system, will change its operations for the holiday. There will be no fixed route or Dial-A-Ride services offered on Thursday, Nov. 27.

The following day, Friday, Nov. 28, StarMetro’s fixed route service will operate on a Sunday schedule with no night service, and Dial-A-Ride will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. StarMetro’s Call Center will be open on Friday, Nov. 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit Talgov.com/StarMetro or call 850-891-5200.

Animal Services: The Animal Service Center will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28. Normal hours will resume on Saturday, Nov. 29, with the center opening at 10 a.m. for appointments and walk-ins offered from 1-5 p.m. Customers needing more information, including photos of animals available for adoption and to report lost and found pets, may visit Talgov.com/Animals or contact the Animal Service Center at 850-891-2950.

City Animal Control will be available for emergency situations only on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28, and can be reached via the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 850-606-5800.

City-run Community Centers: Community centers operated by the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department will be closed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27-29. Centers will resume normal hours on Monday, Dec. 1.

Leon County

The following closures and service changes will occur in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Family Day on Friday, Nov. 28.

Closed Thursday, Nov. 27: Leon County Solid Waste and Household Hazardous Waste Center.

Closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28: Leon County offices, libraries, community centers, County Animal Control.

Remaining open: Leon County Parks and Recreation facilities (parks, greenways, campgrounds, and boat landings).

Celebrate Florida Family Day: On Friday, Nov. 28, celebrate Florida Family Day, a day that celebrates the importance of family togetherness, support, and love.

In 2021, the Leon County Commission and the City of Tallahassee Commission jointly declared the day after Thanksgiving as Family Day, a testament to the community’s commitment to celebrating the importance of families, unity, support, and love. As the first community in Florida to make this proclamation, Leon County invites residents and visitors alike to commemorate this special occasion by spending quality time with loved ones, shopping locally at Leon County businesses, and enjoying other arts, culture, and outdoor amenities communitywide.

Additional Service Information: All LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library branches will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, and will resume normal operating hours at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The Leon County Solid Waste Management Facility, Rural Waste Centers, and Household Hazardous Waste Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27. Regular operating hours will resume on Friday, Nov. 28. For more information, call the Leon County Solid Waste Management Division at 850-606-1800.

Residential waste collection routes will be delayed by one day for citizens whose normal pick-up day is during the holiday. Waste Pro’s holiday schedule can be found at WasteProUSA.com/Leon-County. For more information, call the Leon County Solid Waste Management Division at 850-606-1800.

In the event of an animal-related emergency, service is available by calling the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 850-606-5800. Leon County Animal Control encourages residents to only use this service to report dangerous or aggressive dogs, sick or injured domestic animals, and animal cruelty. Injured wildlife calls will be forwarded to the St. Francis Wildlife Association at 850-627-4151.
