Tulane has enjoyed another strong season under head coach Jon Sumrall, with the Green Wave sitting second in the American Conference with a 9‑2 overall record (6-1 in American) and a No. 24 AP ranking.
Sumrall has been one of college football‘s most successful coaches over the last four years, putting together a 41-11 record across two seasons at Troy and two at Tulane.
The Green Wave sit one win from a spot in the American Conference championship game, and Sumrall has already been named a finalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award.
As a result, Sumrall’s name has repeatedly been linked to several coaching vacancies across college football.
Unfortunately, with Sumrall seemingly on his way out, one of the school’s biggest recruits from the 2026 class, four-star wide receiver Trez Davis, has officially decommitted from Tulane.

Davis, the No. 24-ranked wide receiver in the 2026 class per 247Sports, is listed at 6’0″, 180 pounds, and has been touted as an elite multi-sport athlete who also plays basketball and competes in track and field.
In his 2024 junior season at West Monroe High School in West Monroe, Louisiana, he finished with 53 receptions for 998 yards and eight TDs, averaging 18.8 yards per catch.
In November, he took official visits to Washington and Houston, and received offers from Baylor, Arkansas, Kentucky, and others who actively pursued him as a flip target.
He initially committed to Sumrall and the Green Wave on June 13, making his decommitment on Monday a massive recruiting swing.

Recent reports indicated Florida had scheduled a meeting with Sumrall that was later called off, or that Sumrall was removing his name from the Florida search.
Some believe this may be a strategic play by Sumrall to boost his chances at Auburn, a program that reportedly has him near the top of its list.
At the same time, Florida appears to be waiting on Lane Kiffin’s decision before turning to Sumrall as a fallback option.
Whether Sumrall stays or goes, a recruit of Davis’ profile reentering the market is a direct consequence of coaching‑staff uncertainty and the normal recruiting ripple effects when a head coach is linked to other jobs.
