TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Atlantic Hurricane Season wraps up today. The season ends on a quiet note after several years of impacts on the Big Bend and South Georgia.
The original forecast from meteorologists projected a near-to-slightly above-average season.

In total, there were 13 named storms. Five storms were hurricanes. Four storms reached major hurricane strength.

Three of the four major hurricanes reached category five strength. Those storms were Erin, Humberto and Melissa, which was the last named storm of the Atlantic season.

Hurricane Melissa was the third strongest Atlantic storm on record based on central pressure. Winds with the category five storm reached 185 mph, with record wind gusts over 200 mph.

The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season was the first since 2015 to have no landfalling hurricanes in the contiguous United States.
There was one tropical storm that made landfall, which was Chantal. The “c” storm brought heavy rain to the Mid-Atlantic in early July.
Barry made landfall in Mexico as a tropical storm. But the moisture from the tropical cyclone moved into Texas on the 4th of July weekend, which, combined with an upper low that was not moving, led to devastating flooding across the Star State, particularly in Kerrville.
The break of landfalling hurricanes comes after a stressful few years across the Big Bend and South Georgia, where Michael, Idalia, Helene, Milton, Debby, Nicole and Elsa battered residents.
