Danjel Morina and Konstantinos “Dinos” Chilias, co-owners of Mythos Greek Bistro, have set out to create an authentic European experience. It shouldn’t come as a surprise since both are native Greeks.
The new establishment, at 2501 Central Ave., is located at the former spot of a bar and restaurant, the Salty Nun, which closed in August. A tentative soft opening is scheduled Dec. 2.
The collaboration was born from an exchange at Chilias’ La Creperia Cafe in Ybor City. Morina, who ran a pizzeria in New York, moved to the Tampa Bay area in June. “We started talking about Greece and how we missed the food,” Morina explained.
This led the duo to explore working together. They would sign a lease for the 4,800-square-foot property in September.
Originally, the establishment was set to open this month. However, construction and licensing challenges delayed the timeline.
A key part of the experience will be traditional Greek recipes. Additionally, the owners are shipping in some ingredients from their home country. Greek wines will also be imported.
European hospitality is another central component, Morina added. While not a family business, the duo wanted to create an atmosphere akin to the restaurants they grew up with in Greece.
The building was also renovated to better reflect a Greek theme. To exemplify, it was repainted blue and white to pay homage to the Greek island of Santorini, which has a unique color scheme.
A large patio for dining will be a focus point of the restaurant. This was one of the elements that was attractive about the space, Morina said. There will be a dining area and bar inside as well.
Additionally, Morina and Chilias renovated the Salty Nun’s stage for nightlife events. The restaurant will have live music, including Greek singers, and DJs on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
