STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — A child was airlifted to the hospital after they were struck by a vehicle in the city of Stuart on Tuesday, according to Stuart Police Department.

Police say at about 4:10 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The department’s investigation found that a 12-year-old was crossing Bayou Ave at the intersection with MLK Jr. Blvd when a red Chevrolet pickup traveling east on MLK Blvd struck the child.

Officers and Stuart Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and rendered aid to the child before they were airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for further evaluation.

Police say the child did not suffer any life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, police say.
