St. Pete police arrest 16-year-old high school student accused of bringing gun to campus

Officers say the student did not make any threats, nor did he show off the weapon.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Pete high school student is facing charges after police say he brought a gun to campus.

The St. Pete Police Department says a 16-year-old 11th grader brought the gun in his backpack Tuesday at Northeast High School, located in the area of 16th Street North.

Officers say the student did not make any threats, nor did he show off the weapon.

The teenager is charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, delinquent in possession of a firearm and violation of supervised release.

 “St. Petersburg Police Department makes the safety of students a top priority, and any weapon on campus or other threat to school safety will be thoroughly investigated,” the agency wrote in a statement. “This serves as a reminder to students that the police department takes these matters very seriously, and the consequences could be severe.”
