An investigation is underway in Florida City after the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said a man in a wheelchair was hit and killed by a truck while trying to cross the street early Thursday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, Florida City Police Officers responded to reports of a traffic crash with injuries on Krome Avenue near 8th street just after 4:30 a.m.
The preliminary investigation showed that a man in a wheelchair was hit by a truck while trying to cross the street.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue also responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials said the driver of the truck remained at the scene and called 911 for help.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide detectives took over the investigation, and no other information was immediately available.Â
