Another inmate at Tallahassee’s federal prison has pleaded guilty to smuggling illegal drugs into the lockup, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.

In a Dec. 4 news release, prosecutors said Ashley Mullins, 40, of Virginia, admitted to “introducing methamphetamine into the Tallahassee Federal Correctional Institution (FCI).”

Mullins “was detected by a Bureau of Prisons officer walking with an object bulging in her pocket. The officer directed (her) to empty her pockets and discovered several contraband items, including a crystal substance and a crystal powder substance in a bag. Later forensic testing confirmed the substances were methamphetamine,” the release said.

A plea agreement and statement of facts in the court file did not show what Mullins was in prison for or how she got the drugs into the institution. Mullins faces up to 20 more years in prison and three years on supervised release when she is sentenced Feb. 5 by U.S. District Judge Mark Walker in Tallahassee’s federal courthouse.

“The case involved a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons Special Investigative Services Unit,” the release said. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Welch; the Office of the Federal Public Defender represents Mullins.

Federal prosecutors previously said this week that another inmate also pleaded guilty to sneaking pot inside the prison. Bertram Williams, 50, face five years’ imprisonment when he is sentenced Jan. 8, also before Walker.
