Cummings started playing the five-string banjo at age 12. When Cummings was in his late 20s, he founded the band Swamp Yankee and released “The Long Way.” In 2003, he released his solo debut, “From the Heart.” That album saw Cummings playing with Double Trouble, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rhythm section.
Ever since the release of his first album in 2003, the blues world has opened its doors for Cummings. A singer and guitarist who has played with many of the greatest players of the modern era, Cummings has received the kind of recognition that few others do.
With its 2022 release on Cummings’ own indie label, Ivy Music Company, “Ten” is a full realization of the wider possibilities of where his music can go. The 13 songs on “Ten” are a compelling and emotional summation of what the artist has seen and done.
The single “Need Somebody” begins the album with a sonic slugfest of back-alley power, the sound that Cummings has spent his life perfecting. Vince Gill lends background vocals to the standout track “Last Call.”
In 2024, Cummings released “Strong,” his 10th album.

Peter White
CLEARWATER — Peter White will perform his holiday show on Thursday, Dec. 11, 8 p.m., at the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater.

White is an extraordinary and fluent acoustic guitarist whose skills are world-renowned. Revered saxophonist Mindi Abair returns with her dynamic vigor ready to captivate audiences far and wide. Vincent Ingala is no stranger to contemporary jazz audiences — his energy, and musicianship will put a smile on anyone’s face.
White recalls, “My earliest memories of Christmas were probably not much different from many other people: snowflakes, tinsel, Santa Claus, reindeer, and the opening of presents surrounded by family. As a child, my father taught me to play Christmas music on my first instrument, the recorder, and my love for Christmas music has endured throughout the years. I hope this tour will be an opportunity for many smooth jazz fans to enjoy their favorite Christmas songs in a family setting. You know, I might even bring my recorder!”
White’s classic acoustic guitar style can be enjoyed through an ever-growing and best-selling catalog, including his latest release “Light of Day” (2025).
“Growing up, my family would get together for Christmas every year” Abair said. “My grandmother would cook oyster stuffing and rhubarb pie, and we’d all play and sing together. I still make a rhubarb pie every year in her honor. My grandmother gave me great advice early on, ‘If you play the piano you can be the life of any party!’ She was an opera singer and would sit and play piano and sing Christmas songs. My father would take over and play more rock/blues/jazz versions of Christmas songs and we’d all sing. And of course, I’d pull out my sax and play along with my father on piano. What an amazing way to grow up, with music surrounding me, and weaving into my life so seamlessly from a young age.”
Abair’s latest release “I Can’t Wait for Christmas” (2024) on Pretty Good For A Girl Records is a 10-song collection of holiday classics that transports listeners straight to the heart of the holiday season, blending timeless classics with fresh, soulful originality.
“I can vividly remember not being able to fall asleep waiting for Santa Claus to arrive on Christmas Eve,” Ingala said. “Somehow though, he always managed to get the job done while I was sleeping, and before I could catch him! I remember feeling extra special that Santa would place all of the gifts around the fireplace like a display, as opposed to them being wrapped under the Christmas tree. I would sneak downstairs multiple times with my flashlight to get a sneak peek before the sun would rise on Christmas morning! Memories such as these I will always continue to hold in my heart, and they are what makes Christmas a very magical time of the year.”
Ingala’s latest release is “Escape with Me” (2024) on Shanachie Records.

Raekwon and Mobb Deep
ST. PETERSBURG — Raekwon and Mobb Deep are on the road for a co-headlining tour that will bring them to the Tampa Bay area for a show on Sunday, Dec. 14, 7 p.m., at Jannus Live, 200 First Ave. N., St. Petersburg.
Tickets start at $52.85. Visit www.jannuslive.com.
The tour is a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Raekwon’s “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…” and Mobb Deep’s “The Infamous.”
Raekwon is a legendary rapper, entrepreneur, and founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, whose groundbreaking work has left an indelible mark on hip-hop culture. Bursting onto the scene with the seminal group debut “Enter the Wu-Tang” in 1993, Raekwon quickly established himself as a formidable lyricist and storyteller.
His 1995 solo debut, “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…” — often referred to as the “Purple Tape” — revolutionized hip-hop by pioneering the mafioso rap subgenre. The album’s intricate slang, cinematic skits, and gritty production created a blueprint that influenced countless artists and helped define an era of street narratives and complex lyricism.
Mobb Deep is one of the most iconic and influential hip-hop duos to emerge from the East Coast. Comprised of Prodigy and Havoc, the Queensbridge, New York, natives helped define the sound of hardcore hip-hop in the 1990s, pairing raw lyricism with dark, minimalist production. Over the course of their career, Mobb Deep developed a sound that became synonymous with gritty street realism — uncompromising, cinematic, and deeply influential.
Their landmark 1995 sophomore album, “The Infamous” is widely regarded as a cornerstone of East Coast rap. Anchored by the anthemic “Shook Ones Pt. II,” the album delivered chilling, atmospheric beats and vivid, hard-edged storytelling that resonated deeply with listeners and helped shape the tone of New York hip-hop for years to come.
Jannus Live
Silverstein
ST. PETERSBURG — Silverstein will perform on Saturday, Dec. 13, 6 p.m., at Jannus Live, 200 First Ave. N., St. Petersburg.
Tickets start at $34.50. Visit www.jannuslive.com.
The time the band spent alone together in a remote desert was such a revelation for Shane Told (vocals), Paul Koehler (drums), Josh Bradford (guitar), Billy Hamilton (bass), and Paul Marc Rousseau (guitar) that they returned with their best work yet: the stunning and invigorating “Antibloom” and “Pink Moon.”
The band made the two albums at Fireside Sound, a recording studio and filming location on 35 private acres in Joshua Tree, California. The immersive desert area has offered life-affirming creative fire to iconic troubadours like Gram Parsons, Queens Of The Stone Age, and now Silverstein.
They arrived in Joshua Tree with 25 completed demos and chose their 16 favorites. Koehler suggested splitting the music into two albums and turning 2025 into a year-long celebration. This will allow listeners the space to absorb and connect with the songs, like “Mercy Mercy,” “Don’t Let Me Get too Low,” and “Cherry Coke.”
Rousseau and Told composed the majority of the music for the diverse pair of records. Cassadee Pope and Dayseeker’s Rory Rodriguez feature on “Autopilot” and “Drain the Blood,” respectively, both found on Pink Moon.
While neither album is a concept record, they share some thematic threads, particularly about death, mortality, and the duality inherent in solitude, which can be peaceful but lonely.
Silverstein’s “Discovering the Waterfront” (2005), recently certified gold in their native Canada, remains a touchstone classic. “A Beautiful Place to Drown” (2020) earned a Rock Album of the Year nomination at the Juno Awards. “Antibloom” and “Pink Moon” are vibrant reminders of why the group remains special and why Alternative Press readers voted Told among the Five Best Post-Hardcore Vocalists of all time.

TopHouse band members include Joseph Larson (lead vocals, guitar, banjo), Jesse Davis (guitar, mandolin, percussion, backing vocals), William Cook (violin, backing vocals), and Andy LaFave (piano, backing vocals). The band formed in 2016 in Missoula, Montana, where Cook and Davis met in the music program at the University of Montana. They began as a street performing duo, honing their craft performing instrumental originals on the streets (and empty parking garages) of Missoula. Cook soon brought Larson, a longtime friend, into the fold and the trio began recording original songs and performing up and down the stunningly beautiful Bitterroot Valley.
In late 2019, the boys were faced with a hard choice: keep growing their personal and professional lives in Missoula and leave music as just a hobby or leave their beloved home state and move across the country to Nashville and devote themselves to music. They chose the latter.
“It was sort of always the plan to move to Music City,” says Larson, “I think it was a combination of naiveté́ and the desire to make the whole music thing a concrete part of our lives.”
Within a few months of moving to the Southeast, the world ground to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Stuck in an unfamiliar city with nowhere to go, the trio hunkered down and honed their craft. As the world began to cautiously open back up, the band reemerged with new music and a new member: Lafave, an old friend of the boys from back home, rounding out the sound with piano.
With some viral social media moments, a healthy dose of touring, consistent time in the studio, TopHouse has continued to grow to the point of selling out venues in cities they’ve never even heard of. The band’s releases include “Middle of Somewhere,” “Hopes & Fears,” “Snapshot,” “The Irish EP,” and “Campfire Stories.” In 2024, they released the EP “Theory,” followed by the EP “Practice” in 2025.
